The Manitoulin Island Dark Sky Association would use donor funds for a variety of
purposes including (but not restricted to):
A) WEBSITE: Creation and maintenance of a highly visual, highly informative
MIDSA website. The purpose of the website would be to educate the
public on issues related to darks sky preservation, market Manitoulin Island
as a .Destination., inspire community support for the project, and inform
stakeholders with regular progress reports on the dark sky project.
B) EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS: Purchase and/or reproduction of
educational materials such as slide sets, handouts etc.
C) OFFICE MATERIALS & SERVICES: Stamps, envelopes, paper, long
distance phone calls etc.
D) RESEARCH: Analysis of dark sky preservation projects in Canada and
beyond. How are these projects being implemented? What benefits
(environmental and/or economic) are they bringing to the communities
involved?
E) CONVERSION: Funds will be used to help communities convert existing
lighting systems to astronomy-friendly lighting systems.
F) MARKETING: Brochure development and distribution, some tradeshow
participation, information distribution to various science / astronomy,
tourism publications, media etc.
